Homer Schamp: Funny Things
September 4, 2008 - September 20, 2008 | 5:30pm - 5:00pm
3134 Eastern Avenue
Baltimore, MD 21224
Imagine a 7-foot kaleidoscope, with an eye-popping light show, timed to the beat of drums. Sculptor Homer Schamp is a retired physicist and former Dean/Vice Chancellor at UMBC, who presents just a few of the elaborate contraptions from his warehouse studio in Greektown. Schamp?s apparati capture the visual wonder of scientific principles?how powerful magnets can make things dance, how torqued mirrors reflect moving objects, and how different materials fall through the air. His ?scientific toys? modulate, manipulate and mesmerize the eye, while appealing to the latent tinkerer and physicist in us all.
