Bedazzled by Brooches: The Fibula Form and its Variants

Walters Session: Saturday, October 25, 10 a.m.?noon MICA Session: Saturday, November 1, 9:30 a.m.?4:30 p.m. Sabine Albersmeier, Associate Curator of Ancient Art John Fix, Metalsmith, MICA Students will tour the Walters? exhibition Bedazzled: 5,000 Years of Jewelry with curator Sabine Albersmeier. They will look at the evolution of jewelry-making techniques and materials and discover jewelry?s importance as a creative expression and status symbol. At MICA, under the instruction of metalsmith John Fix, students will explore the fibula form and its related variants?the stick pin and brooch?and learn basic construction techniques while making their own work. This workshop offers instruction in hammer techniques, filing, bending and the use of hand tools. Members and current MICA students $170; non-members $200, tuition includes materials fee Space is limited.
