(New York & Continental Review) Multi-faceted musician Alvaro Pierri is a regular guest at the major concert houses of Europe, North and South America, and Asia. After winning several international competitions as a young boy, Pierri made his debut in Germany in 1983 with the string soloists of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and subsequently appeared on numerous radio and television programs produced by German, Spanish, French, Canadian, and Japanese Radios. Pierri has premiered pieces by many contemporary composers who have written major works for him, including Leo Brouwer, Guido Santorsola, Astor Piazzolla, Abel Carlevaro, and Carlo Domeniconi. As a chamber musician, Pierri has collaborated with major musical figures such as Astor Piazzolla, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Philippe Müller, Leo Brouwer, and the Cherubini Quartet, and he has worked with conductors such as Pinchas Steinberg, Charles Dutoit, and Wojciech Rajski. A two-time winner of the Canadian FELIX Award for the best classical CD, Pierri's extensive discography includes solo recordings, chamber music, guitar concerts and electro-acoustic music. He is also featured on a DVD with Astor Piazzolla and the WDR Symphony Orchestra as well as a DVD featuring Spanish and South American guitar music. A native of Montevideo, Uruguay, Alvaro Pierri studied with Abel Carlevaro, the composer Guido Santorsola, and at the Uruguayan National Institute of Musicology.
